Staying Sharp on Business Trips
|
Planning business trips can be a daunting task whether its a quick trip to an impersonal exhibition or an overseas sextended trip to meet or find new clients or investors. The underlying levels of job satisfaction are an important indicator of and predictor of work behaviours and business trip effectiveness. In 1991 a valuable piece of research was published by Rain, J.S., Lane, I.M. & Steiner, D.D. which took a look at the the parallels between job satisfaction and life satisfaction in general.
One of the key research findings was that job satisfaction is directly correlated to the general state and feeling of life satisfaction. Interestingly this correlation is also reciprocal, implying people who are satisfied with life tend to be satisfied with their job and people who are satisfied with their job tend to be satisfied with life (this also works vice versa with dis-satisfaction).
The question or challenge then for both individuals and employers is how best to meet the needs of staff whilst respecting the position of the organization. Business trips can make or break a career and a business, if deals are not completed significant losses may be seen. Individuals should consider confidence and satisfaction building measures such as role play or game play.
