Keeping Motivated at Work

Many companies today are unaware of the effects that motivation can have on their employees. It's important to understand the factors that determine positive motivation in the workplace.

Motivation can have an effect on the output of an employee concerning both quantity and quality.

Fredrick Herzberg was the first to show that satisfaction and dissatisfaction at work nearly always arise from differing factors, and were not simply opposing reactions to the same factors, as had always previously been thought.

In 1959 Herzberg wrote the following useful phrase, which helps explain the critical part of his theory: "the job satisfiers deal with the factors involved in doing the job, whereas the job dissatisfiers deal with the factors which define the job context."

As such it's important for employees to have the mental faculties and abilities to perform the job. By ensuring regular memory excercises, staff can ensure strong brain fitness and thereby increase motivation in the workplace.
