Cerebellum
The cerebellum (
little brain) is a part of the brain that manages motor control. It is also involved in some cognitive functions such as
attention and language, but its most attributed function is movement.
The cerebellum contributes to the fine tuning of each movement we make by regulating coordination, precision, and accurate timing. It receives signals from sensory systems, from the brain and the spinal cord, and integrates them to adjust motor activity. Therefore, damage to the cerebellum does not cause paralysis, but instead produces disorders in fine movement, balance, posture, and motor learning.
The cerebellum takes up the larger, front part of the skull. At the base of the cerebrum, similarly to a mushroom shape, is the brain stem.
